How a 300-year-old property became a modern refuge
The historic history, idyllic location and professional challenge aroused the interest of Stuttgart-based architect Zlatko Antolovic in dedicating himself to the monumental conversion of a 17th-century barn. Nevertheless, creating a harmonious connection with modern materials and furnishings was mastered with bravoure. The architect deliberately opted for design classics, such as the PLAN blue mixer tap from KEUCO.

The modern home of the architect and his family is now hidden under the steep saddle roof of the historic barn in Waiblingen, Swabia. After the barn was used as a warehouse and commercial building, it stood empty for a long time and was increasingly in need of renovation. Zlatko Antolovic and Alexander Wendlik, owners of the Coast Office Architecture office, recognised the potential of the once distressed building and embraced the renovation with great passion. They placed great importance on the original renovation of the listed property. Design-intensive furniture and the combination of old substance with modern materials create a harmonious unit today. The central staircase, a black monolith made of stained spruce, connects the two residential floors in the upper part of the barn, which are occupied by the architect and his family. In the past, a hoist for transporting goods had its place here. The three lower floors are available as office space.

The living area is designed as an open loft-like floor plan. The brushed oak parquet in a light tone emphasises the airy atmosphere. The historic rooftop can be seen throughout the living room. The contrast between rustic beams and contemporary interiors is particularly beautiful in the bathroom. Light tiles and white ceramics give the wood plenty of room to exude its charm. The chrome-plated surfaces of the mixer taps add shiny accents.
Like all KEUCO mixer taps, the PLAN blue mixer tap on the washbasin demonstrates the highest quality in terms of workmanship, the materials used and the technical interior. The exclusive use of brass turned and milled parts stands for solid materiality, emphasising the precise shapes and perfect surfaces.
At the same time, water can be saved with the PLAN blue single-lever mixers. The flow rate is only 6 l/min. This does not affect the water experience: Special aerators ensure a rich, sparkling and soft water jet. The PLAN blue single-lever mixer is certified according to the WELL classification system. For Zlatko Antolovic, this is another plus point when selecting the mixer tap.
With the renovation of the historic barn, the architect and his family have created a very special home in the middle of the idyllic town of Waiblingen.
