Top-of-the-range grand hotel presents 42 luxury rooms and suites with exclusive bathroom design
The Dom Hotel Cologne with its long history and tradition is located in the middle of Cologne, directly opposite the Cologne Cathedral on the cathedral plate. No other hotel in the centre of Cologne offers a better view of the impressive cathedral and the city’s landmark. Le Méridien Dom Hotel Cologne is one of the oldest Grand Hotels in Europe and is now part of the well-known top hotel chain Le Méridien by Starwood Hotels. In order to meet the demand of the international cosmopolitan audience and increase capacity, the neighbouring Blau-Gold-Haus was converted and renovated for an expansion of the Dom Hotel Cologne. The building, which dates back to 1952, was named Blau-Gold-Haus due to its historic, turquoise-golden facade, which was designed in the company colours of the developer, the renowned perfume company 4711 Kölnisch Wasser.
Since the building is listed as a monument, the Cologne Office for Monument Protection was involved in the planning from the outset. After a renovation that has been preserved, the Blue Gold House now shines in a new light - as an integral part of the expanded Dom Hotel. Elements of historic building art and modern interior architecture combine here to form an ensemble with a special character. Elements of the magnificent exterior facade of the Blue Gold House are reflected in the interior - such as the fluting, which is repeated in the interior with a leaf gold-plated surface.
The conversion of the Blau-Gold-Haus was carried out by Cologne-based LIG Lammerting Immobilien GmbH, which is also the operator of the hotel, as the project developer. With 162 rooms, including 42 luxury rooms and suites, the expanded Dom Hotel offers its guests an exclusive ambience and the highest level of comfort, geared towards the wishes of a discerning national and international audience. The largest suite stands out with its 88 square metres and a breathtaking view from the 4th floor overlooking the facade of the Cologne cathedral. A bathroom with whirlpool and a separate guest toilet guarantee the highest level of comfort. But the other new luxury rooms and suites also give the historic hotel an exclusive upgrade.
The team of interior designers JOI-Design from Hamburg placed great value on hand-picked materials such as fine woods, supple leather and the finest fabrics. The furniture was specially crafted and many lovingly manufactured elements, such as the detailed views of the dome facade etched into the glass doors of the wardrobes and showers, create an unmistakable ambience - in combination with corresponding photographs and images.
The entire interior design of the suites and rooms is characterised by understated elegance. With exclusive furnishings, a colour composition in natural tones, high-quality bathrooms with black marble and high-quality mixer taps from KEUCO, they stand for contemporary luxury. The interior designers therefore opted for the Edition 300 mixer taps and accessories from KEUCO, whose subtle elegance fits perfectly into the overall concept. High-quality chrome surfaces with a special depth of gloss elegantly reflect the light, while straight and rounded shapes are harmoniously combined. The angular rosettes of the mixer taps consistently continue the straight-lined design of the bathroom. The matt real crystal glass of the EDITION 300 tumbler holder and soap holder underlines the high-quality character of the room. Individually selectable lighting effects in orange, yellow, blue or green ensure an atmospheric end to the evening and an energised start to the day.
